Introduction

Mission

The Center was established to promote the study of  international economic and trade law, and provide analysis as well as legal advice to the government of Taiwan for its participation in international economic affairs.

Center at a Glance

Located at the tenth floor of  the building of College of Commerce, the Center operates as a small library and a meeting room. The operation of the Center is supervised by Director Prof. Connie Guang-Hwa Yang, Prof. Wen-Chen Shih, Prof. Pei-Kan Yang, Prof. Ching-Wen Hsueh, and the Advisory Board, which is composed of Prof. Shin-Pyng Chang, Prof. Chanfa Lo, Prof. Der-Chin Horng, Prof. Shin-Yi Peng, and Prof. Tsai-Yu Lin. The graduate students (major in international trade law) of the Department of International Business, work as staff responsible for the daily operation of the Center.

Activities

Holding Academic Conferences       

In order to promote the understanding of the international economic and trade law, the Center holds various conference, seminars, and other academic activities. The first annual “Conference on the Development of International Economic and Trade Laws” was held in April, 2001. Since then, the annual Conference has been held every March.

Publication of  Conference Proceedings and E-Newsletters   

The proceedings of the Annual “Conference on the Development of International Economic and Trade Laws” are published to include presented articles , keynote speeches and Q&A transcripts of each Conference.     

        

In order to provide more timely briefing on the rapid development of the international trade activities and rules, the Center also publishes a bi-weekly E-newsletter (currently in Chinese only). The first issue was circulated on July 10th, 2003. Since Nov. 29, 2008(No. 76), the E-Newsletter has changed to contain more research articles than news briefing.

Providing Analysis and Advisory Opinions to the Government 

The most significant responsibilities of the Center are to conduct academic and policy research and to provide legal advice to the government on international trade and economic law.

Specialized Library

The Center maintains a small library, which has large amount of WTO-related books, journals, and copies of WTO official documents. It is open to the public during weekdays, from 9 AM – 5 PM (lunch break 12 – 2 PM).
